A few months back, I went to visit Colin & Adam in Boulder, Co. Colin & Adam are TRUE cyclist. I mean they had the compression gear that holds your phone, the clip-in riding shoes, and rode like true professionals. It was crazy how amazing they were. When Colin asked me to chase the sunrise with he & Adam the night before, he said, “it should be an easy ride”. That was my mistake because I didn’t ask him, “do you mean easy for you or easy for me”. Nonetheles, I decided to wake up with these two along with Hillary and hit the trail. And it was one of the worst/best decisions of my life. It was up and over hills, through the forest and I hadn’t ridden a bike for more than 3 miles let alone almost 15 miles. But I learned something that day....
So here it is, you must have people around you that won‘t let you fail. I learned that I could trust Colin & Adam with my life. No matter how far ahead they were and they were really far ahead, they always came back to check on me. I know I made their ride a lot less enjoyable but they didn’t make me feel that way. They understood that I had never done this before and showed an immense amount of patience, support & care. The same goes with you chasing your dreams. You’ve never done this before and a lot of it is going to be completely new to you so similar to my biking experience your circle has to understand that and be willing to support you through it all. Does your circle support your chase?
I learned It’s not at all easy to chase something you want or you need especially when you cannot see the end because it forces you to have an undeniable sense of commitment. And because we all have grown accustom to having things ”right-now” it’s tough for us to stay dedicated to something that forces us outside of our comfort zone. I wanted to give up so many times but I was determined to finish because I knew how much it meant to me to do something I’ve never done before and succeed. My question is, “How much do your goals and dreams matter to you?”... if they matter, then chase them!
